Photos: All-star quartet Beat revives King Crimson songs in Napa
A new supergroup dedicated to playing the '80s music of influential progressive-rock band King Crimson appeared at Napa's Meritage Resort and Spa Friday night, performing songs from the albums Discipline, Beat, and Three of a Perfect Pair.

Featuring two members who recorded and toured with guitarist and King Crimson founder Robert Fripp and drummer Bill Bruford in that edition of the band -- guitarist/singer Adrian Belew and bassist/Chapman Stick player Tony Levin -- Beat was rounded out by guitar great Steve Vai (who has played with Frank Zappa, David Lee Roth and Whitesnake in addition to leading a long solo career) and Tool drummer Danny Carey.

The band's inaugural tour kicked off the night before at the San Jose Civic, beginning a 65-date run that will return to the Bay Area in November when they play the Civic again on the 20th.
